Salamanca Market |
|
| In a nutshell:
On Hobart's waterfront, you'll find Salamanca Place, a quayside street lined with old sandstone warehouses now containing bars, cafes, restaurants, art galleries, craft shops and more. On Saturdays, all year round, Salamanca is filled with a colourful outdoor market featuring stalls laden with everything from local produce to fine crafts, clothing to antiques. A tree lined park extends along the place, with Parliament House gardens adjacent. Walk around the waterfront, which is dotted with interesting businesses, the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery, Maritime Museum and many historic buildings. The whole waterfront is open to the public. A short walk away is Battery Point - a quaint historic suburb with narrow winding streets running down to shipyards and chandleries. Many buildings in the area have been preserved from first settlement in the early 1800's. A guided walking tour is available, given sufficient prior notice. |
