In a nutshell: Freycinet National park is located 190kms north east of Hobart, in the centre of the popular east coast holiday area, you'll discover the white beaches and red granite rocks of Tasmania's spectacular coastline. This is a fishing, swimming, bushwalking, and boating paradise. The site of one of the "Worlds Top Ten Beaches", Wineglass Bay is only one hour's walk from the carpark. The town at the entrance to the park is Coles Bay, 40km from Bicheno. How to get there HOW TO GET THERE:
Self-drive Freycinet National Park is about three and a half hours drive from Hobart, and about the same from Launceston. Visitors coming from the north have several routes to choose from, but the most scenic (and longest) is via Scottsdale. Coach Tours Day excursions operate from Hobart and Launceston, two days each week on the regular route service coach. There are also special interest tours from Hobart. Public Transport You can take a coach from Hobart or Launceston (not daily). Times vary throughout the year. See Tassielink Coaches. WHERE TO STAY:
Motels There are no motels at Coles Bay, however, there are several motels in Bicheno. Inside the actual park boundary is a resort in a magnificent setting. There is a large range of self contained units available from quite basic cabins to luxurious apartments. Hostels/Camp There is a backpackers hostel in the caravan park, close to the township. Camping sites are limited, as the only space is inside the actual national park boundary. The few powered sites for caravans and motorhomes are allocated on a ballot system in summer. Bed & Breakfast There are several B&B's in the area and many self catering cottages. |
